SaxTonePlay originated out of casual conversations about tone, phrasing, and all things saxophone. Over time, those conversations evolved into a more structured forum for communicating simple, step-by-step, sequential information to students seeking steady progress without information overload. We believe that steady improvement is best achieved through steady practice, with a clear sense of direction, coupled with a knowledge of the music being played, rather than information overload.
A journey rooted in real playing experience
After decades of playing the saxophone, making recordings, performing with groups, and teaching, it became clear that all serious saxophone students need access to the same foundational information. This includes the elements that separate a good tone from a great tone, and mechanical playing from truly musical expression. That understanding led to organizing these ideas into a single site focused entirely on the saxophone, addressing breath, embouchure, articulation, improvisation, and confidence.
